Baylor Scott & White President and CEO Jim Hinton today announced the creation of a new Office of the President to serve the organization – the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas. Hinton has been serving as both president and CEO since he joined Baylor Scott & White in January 2017. With the addition of this new leadership position, he will transition some responsibilities.

“This new office will further expand the capabilities of our already talented leadership team, helping us more rapidly evolve,” said Hinton. “We are committed to extending Baylor Scott & White’s long history of success by transforming into a nationally recognized, high-value integrated delivery network; and to transform, we must drive costs down, while making the right investments in key areas.”

Hinton also announced to the organization today that Pete McCanna, who has been serving as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare based in Chicago, will assume the new role of president at Baylor Scott & White in mid-September 2017.  McCanna, with more than 30 years of experience in health care management and consulting, also served as chief financial officer at Presbyterian Healthcare Services in New Mexico and chief financial officer at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver prior to joining Northwestern.

“Pete is a highly respected senior executive with a track record of helping to grow organizations, create and implement successful, long-range strategic plans and lead financial turnarounds,” said Hinton.  “He is one of the best and brightest in health care.”

During his 15-year tenure at Northwestern, the organization’s operating revenue grew from $700 million to more than $5 billion, while exceeding patient experience, employee engagement and quality goals, and maintaining an AA+ bond rating.  He was also instrumental in integrating the faculty physician practice plan of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine with Northwestern Memorial Hospital – Northwestern Medicine’s flagship facility ranked No. 8 in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report.

“I am honored to join Baylor Scott & White, a leading organization, and its talented leadership team,” said McCanna. “The system is well positioned to become one of the top integrated delivery networks in the country, and I’m excited to help advance its strategy to that end.”

McCanna holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. He and his family will be relocating to the Dallas area.
