300,000 square foot facility will employ 40 people when completed

H-E-B Grocery Company, the Temple Economic Development Corporation and the City of Temple have announced H-E-B is ready to break ground on a $20 million, 300,000 square foot cold storage building. The new facility will be built adjacent to H-E-B’sTemple Retail Support Center, a 450,000 square foot warehouse and transportation facility, that opened in July 2010. When complete, the new facility is expected to employ 40 people and serve more than 50 H-E-B retail stores across the region, an area that extends from Austin to Dallas.

The City of Temple and the Temple Economic Development Corporation know the importance of local companies as the foundation of the community’s economic base. Retention and expansion of Temple’s businesses will always be a high priority. To that end, the City of Temple approved at Thursday night’s city council meeting a Chapter 380 agreement with H-E-B for tax abatement on future real property improvements to their tract on Wendland Road.

“We again appreciate the support of TEDC and the City of Temple. I believe this agreement will serve as a catalyst to future investments and a strengthening of our partnership with Temple,” Benjamin Scott, H-E-B Real Estate, said.

“Working with H-E-B on their previous project in Temple’s Rail Park was an enjoyable experience. We really appreciate H-E-B expanding in Temple, Texas. And of course we are extremely happy about the creation of new jobs. These commitments to growing our workforce and expansions by local companies are what continue to grow Temple’s economy,” said Lee Peterson, president of the Temple Economic Development Corporation.
